 ABSTRACT
In the last decades, the research on the addictions is facing the dilemma of accepting (or rejecting) the existence of possible non-toxic addictions, which is currently generating a hot debate. In this article we will review critically the theoretical and practical basis of the proponents of both points of view. We will analyse in depth what has been called the “video game addiction”, and we will comment the important methodological deficiencies that can be found in most of the works on this topic. We will also criticize the simple translation of the substance dependence diagnostic criteria for the diagnostic of such “non-toxic addictions”, and will suggest the convenience of the provisional use of the label "abuse" to Refer to MOST of These Behavioural addictions.
